Mortgage Readiness Initiative (MRI)

Housing & Economic Opportunities provides comprehensive education and capacity-building programs for its clients.

The Mortgage Readiness Initiative a Comprehensive Education Program featuring Financial Planning, Home Ownership Education , an Individual Development Account (IDA) and a grant of up to $5,000 or $10,000.

The program is geared to helping clients qualify for a Home Mortgage by taking control of their Financial Life and becoming informed consumers.  While there are thousands of families in New Jersey wishing to buy their first home, their ability to do so is hampered by poor credit, various credit problems, lack of savings, and or shaky employment history.

H E O's Mortgage Readiness Initiative gives the low and moderate income family a Financial Plan that will lead to Home Ownership.

M R I gathers specific information on an applicant's credit, savings and employment history; analyzes their current ability to buy a home; determines eligibility for an array of mortgage products and recommends certain actions to achieve home ownership. The MRI program will also help an applicant make a budget and get their credit problems under control.

The essence of M R I for the Client is changing a disqualified mortgage applicant to a qualified borrower.
